The Lauren Alston Foundation was started in memory of Bryan and Suzanne Alston’s beautiful 21-year-old daughter, who died on March 7th, 2010, from injuries she incurred during an ATV accident in Nacogdoches, Texas.  The initials of the Foundation, LAF, when spoken outloud, form the word “laugh”, which Lauren did often.  But most importantly, they stand for Love, Action and Faith.  She reached out to those who needed a friend, a helping hand, to be included, or shown love.  So to continue her legacy of helping others, the Foundation was started to raise money to support people and projects that show Love, Action and Faith.  Some examples are: supporting youth going on mission trips, help build wheelchair ramps, give food and backpacks to children in need, help build churches, water filter buckets in Haiti and school supplies for children in Guatemala.

LAF also provides college scholarships in Lauren’s memory.  Lauren graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lufkin High School in May 2006.  She had received scholarship monies from the Lufkin High School Alumni Association each year she was attending Stephen F. Austin State University.  She was on an academic scholarship and was a Senior, about to graduate, at Stephen F. Austin State University when she passed away on March 7, 2010.  She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Education, in Hospitality Management, posthumously on May 15, 2010.  Because of the generosity of numerous friends and family, on May 18, 2010, the memorial scholarship at SFA was endowed, and the family could not think of a better way to celebrate what would have been her 22nd birthday.

LAF funds annual scholarships through Lufkin High School and Stephen F. Austin State University.  The LHS scholarship is awarded to a student who is attending SFA.  The scholarship at SFA is awarded to a student of the Hospitality program.  To apply for these scholarships please contact the Lufkin High School Alumni Association and the Stephen F. To date, May 18, 2023, over $28,000 has been given in college scholarships, money to young adults on mission trips serving locally and abroad, acts of kindness, school supplies & water wells in foreign counties and more.  Also one select service organization who’s target is helping children and families.

The Foundation’s long-term goal is to continue to raise money to support people and projects that show love, action, faith and to provide college scholarships.  We want to continue the legacy Lauren started of showing Christ’s love in everyday actions because we know that is what she would have wanted us to do.  She is forever loved and forever missed!

100% of all monetary donations are in turn given back out for scholarships.
